Issues: Current News feeds Omnibus News Feed Features
1.  Missing News Sources
The leading news feed supplier covers about 30,000 online web sites (many of which are not independent news sources) and delivers about 450,000 new news articles each day.
Monitors 55,000+ online news sources in 250+ languages in 191 countries. Includes most every wire service, daily/weekly newspaper, consumer magazine, trade journal, web-only publication, and broadcaster website in the U.S., UK, and Western Europe. Delivers approximately 1.0 million news articles each day. Of the 55,000+ news sources, 25,000+ are international. New online news sources are added immediately to the media monitoring list upon client request.
2.  Missing Articles
Inconsistent depth of coverage and changes in news source directories often cause news feed suppliers to miss newly posted articles.
Monitors all new content in all directories and sub-domains of all news websites, assuring all-inclusive coverage (including journalist blogs) with near zero missed articles.
3.  Delayed Clip Delivery Resulting from Low Frequency Monitoring
News feed services often do not monitor news sources frequently enough to assure timely news delivery.
Automatically adjusts frequency of news site monitoring depending on frequency of content updates and the importance of the news source to our customer base. The system monitors the top 10% of worldwide news sites on a near real-time basis and spiders next 10% at least hourly. All other news sites are monitored at least daily — and usually at frequencies of 2 to 4 hours for any news source that updates content daily.
4.  Missing/Contaminated Body Copy
Online news feeds often deliver articles that are missing body copy or copy is contaminated by advertisements, sidebar copy, promotional matter, or links to other articles.
Extraneous copy almost never appears in delivered articles. Advanced software delivers extraordinarily clean copy for virtually every article — just the headline and full body copy of the article, along with appropriate XML meta-tags.
5.  Excessive Clip Duplication
Many news sources publish the same article multiple times on the same day in different sections of the web site. As a result, online news feeds deliver the same article more than once from the same publication on the same day.
Employs advanced filters to delete 96% of duplicate articles from the same publication on the same day. (With the other 4%, the article title or copy varies enough to be classified as a different story.)
6.  Delayed Trouble-Shooting
Most online news feed services are unable to detect in a timely fashion problems with capturing the news content from a given news site. The result: sites may go unmonitored for days or weeks.
The system automatically revisits an unavailable website every 10 minutes — and posts flags to notify staff of problems in monitoring a given web site, thereby enabling timely trouble-shooting and issue correction.
7.  Missing/Inaccurate Time Stamps
No time stamps on delivered articles.
Every delivered article includes the date and GMT time-found in the XML metatags.
8.  No Media Measurement Data
XML contains most every meta-tag you could want. Consistent and transparent online site ranking data can be included with each article, fully tagged so data can be easily imported into media analysis software.
9.  Delays Adding Customer Requested News Sites
Because of cumbersome processes and procedures requiring extensive human labor to add sites to be monitored, news feed services often take weeks or months to add news sites to the system.
A software-enabled process allows news sites requested by clients to be added within three business days in most cases. Clients can request unlimited news sites to be added to the media monitoring list, provided that the sites meet CyberAlert guidelines as qualified news content providers. Both U.S.-based and international news sites are added upon client request.
10.  Poor Service / Responsiveness
Service issues with news feed providers usually take extraordinarily long times to resolve.
Commitment to exemplary customer service. Immediate response to customer issues. Quick fixes. Telephone access round the clock to service and technical personnel.
